The boys are here!

I had the pleasure of photographing Alasdair again last month, previously in my studio last fall at the tender age of 8.5 months.   This time he brought along a friend, Zion, who is just as adorable. I’ll let the images speak for themselves. These images are pretty much straight out of the camera..no trickery yet!

See two of my favourites at my website – where young Alisdair has two images from each session with a very similar expression and pose – amazing luck on my part….

Pulling faces 2

This time around it was Mark Pennington who pulled faces for me.  A former professional soccer player from England, now coaching soccer in the lower mainland,  pulling these faces probably wasn’t that much of a stretch.  On top of coaching Mark does some acting and modeling with Marcia Simpson’s Vancouver Lifestyles Modeling Agency which has a roster of great people.  Many thanks to you both.

Pulling faces

Personalities are fast becoming one of my favourite shoots, especially when the subject is comfortable in his/her own skin, ready to be silly and just have a good time.  Bob Mercer, former Editor/Owner of VLM Magazine, was no exception, in fact he is my favourite subject to date.  Here’s a look at 3 contact sheets from that session.

Heather Morton Art Buyer in Vancouver

This is a shout out to all photographers in the Vancouver area to come to the CAPIC event with Art Buyer Heather Morton from Toronto TOMORROW night at Sugar Studios.  Those few of you who are not familiar with her blog…get familiar with it!  Its full of great advise, questions and answers and anything related to the business of photography.  I am certain that we can all benefit in one way or another by hearing what she has to say – See you there!

Jewelry Photography and Retouching

“Does anyone here photograph jewelry?”  was a question at one of the forums on Linkedin which caught my attention.  I have had my share of jewelry jobs, and do enjoy the challenge of photographing these shiny little objects, so I made a small comment to the post. Cathleen McCarthy who has an online magazine/blog for jewelry collectors, makers and connoisseurs was the one who asked the question.  She was impressed with my comment and work  and asked is she could interview me for a follow up to her blog on jewelry photography, this time focusing more on retouching.  I happily accepted.  Here is a link to the post from Cathleen’s blog www.thejewelryloupe.com

Vancouver Olympics 2010

In my last post I mentioned that I was going downtown Friday the 12th. Opening Ceremony day and last day of Torch Relay.  I caught three Torchbearers in a crazy crowd as it worked its way towards the last cauldron before the Opening Ceremony at BC Place.

The images below show CTV News Anchors Collen Christie and Mike Killeen broadcasting live from Robson Street.  Tourchbearers and people cheering them on along with the Vancouver Police guiding the way through the crowd.  Robson Squares Zip line – where people fly over head after waiting up to 6 hours!  Plus some abstracts of pedestrians in their colourful outfits.
